Following are several tips and guidelines for the
installation of various intercom and radio devices:
-
If
you have any doubts in your ability to correctly
install your new communications equipment, contact a
qualified technician for assistance.
-
Turn
off your transceiver while taking on fuel or while
parked around persons fueling and in gasoline
stations. Do not carry fuel containers near your
transceiver.
-
Do
not operate your transceiver when someone is touching
the antenna or standing within two to three feet of
it, to avoid the possibility of radio frequency burns
or related physical injury.
-
If
interference is occurring after installation relocate
the receiving antenna and increase the distance of the
antenna from the receiver.
-
If
interference occurs connect the power supply to a
different source away from engine or charging
circuits.
-
Protect transceivers from moisture, install a moisture
deflection device for off road use and when washing
the vehicle.
-
Avoid
extended transmissions while the engine is not running
to prevent low battery voltage.
-
When
running 12v, two conductor wire to engine compartments
through a firewall, always use a rubber grommet to
protect the wire from shorting to ground.
-
Locate the positive wire fuse as close to the battery
as possible.
-
Never
key a mic or attempt to transmit when the antenna
cable is not connected to the transceiver.
-
Always use the supplied mounting bracket to mount the
device, even when using a flange face plate intercom
for added support.
-
Coil
and secure any surplus cabling. Leave room for flexing
and service of the device.
-
Run
intercom cables along frame and attach to shoulder
harness straps routed up the back of each seat,
leaving adequate room for head and body movement.
-
Store
headsets in a padded, secure bag when not in use, to
protect from damage.
-
For
best performance of radio equipment have a technician
match the antenna length to the particular radio.
Go have
fun and enjoy safer travel with good communications!
